Registering a domain by upgrading – will it redirect?

    Hello! I couldn’t find an answer in the documentation. If I were to upgrade my free site to a paid plan, and take advantage of the custom domain name (so that mysite.wordpress.com becomes mysite.com), but there are already people linking to mysite.wordpress.com. Would traffic automatically get redirected to the new domain, or is there some additional action I would need to take?
