Registering a domain with wordpress.com if it's already expired/mapped

  I had a domain registered with another company. That address was mapped to my wordpress.com blog. However, the domain has expired. I’d like to now register the domain with wordpress.com. When I select the “register a new domain name” and type the address, it tells me that the domain name is already mapped. What do I need to do to register this domain with wordpress.com? Do I first need to unmap the domain?

  What domain name are you trying to register? I can check that domain for you and see if it’s available to register here at WordPress.com. :)
