registering a new domain

  Hello,
  I have been working on branding my blog. I have finally come to terms that I need to change my current site title. My question is – If I change my site title and register a new domain for my current blog “twenty thirteen, will my current subscribers and email followers continue to get my updates? Or, will it be like starting all over? I am not changing my format, just my title and registering a new domain.

  Adding a custom domain is ALWAYS the right choice, and doesn’t change current subscribers or anything else about the blog except it’s search engine ranking, and that’s only a temporary dip. Basically, as the old URL stops getting incoming links (they’re all going to the new URL) it drops in search engine rankings. The new one is just a baby, has hardly any links, and search engines don’t rank it highly. It takes about four months to get enough incoming links to the new URL to regain your search engine ranking. Temporary pain for long-term gain. Very worth it. And all your subscribers are still subscribing.

  One more question as I start this process of changing my site title and upgrading to a custom domain.

  I have changed my site title from ‘Twenty Thirteen’ to ‘Being Margaret’ through my settings on my dashboard. Is there anything further I need to do to wipe out all traces of the “twenty thirteen’ title? As of right now, I still see Twenty Thirteen on my drop down menus. I’m waiting to upgrade to a custom domain until I see the changes somewhere other than on my blog clipart.

  @Timethief – I have finally decided to listen to your sound advice. Well, my domain issues never got resolved, so I am starting with a fresh domain. Your blog post nudged me into doing going through with the change. Thanks! :)

  Once you change to a custom domain, it will take a little while. From a few days to a few weeks. The changes eventually show up on the dashboard.
