Registering a .org domain to my current blog
-
I am having a really tough time upgrading my website. I’ve learned I can only access certain themes if I have a .org domain. I am now really confused on how to add this domain to my current .com site. I registered http://www.ceraphotography.org with Dream Hosting 30 minutes ago, but them realized I might be able to do all this within WordPress. I cancelled my hosting with Dream Hosting, but Word Press still shows that the .org domain is already registered. How do I get past this hurdle?

A domain won’t change your features here. What they mean by “.org” is that you’ll need to install WordPress from http://wordpress.org/ on a hosting provider, like Dreamhost. You can use any domain name, even ceraphotography.com, with your self-hosted WordPress.org blog by changing your nameservers to point to your hosting provider: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#update-nameservers
If you’re interested, we do offer an upgrade called Guided Transfer (available in the Store section of your blog’s Dashboard) where we take care of everything for you: http://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/
Otherwise, you’ll need to install WordPress from http://wordpress.org/ on a hosting provider. We have some recommendations at http://get.wp.com/hosting/
Once that’s done, you can move your content following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/WordPress.org has complete support and documentation sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress at:

http://codex.wordpress.org/We do offer yearly and one-time premium support packages for self-hosted WordPress sites through our VIP program, available at http://vip.wordpress.com
