Registering an Irish Domain Name
-
Hi there!
I want to start a new blog and register a .ie domain. I can’t seem to do that with any of the WordPress recommended people! Also, I am pretty simple when it comes to this kind of thing… Can you help at all?
Thank you!

Hi there. My advice would be to google “Irish domain registrar” and pick one of the options there. Take some time to compare and read the terms of the various registrars to make sure you get the best deal. (I had a quick look, and https://www.iedr.ie/ seems like a good place to start. They have quite a long list of registrars for Irish domain names and explain the whole process in simple, not-too-technical terminology. Please do your homework before buying anything, though. Make sure you pick a registrar with a good reputation.)
Also, if you plan on still having your blog on WordPress.com, only register the domain, don’t buy hosting along with it.
Note that even if you have a custom domain you’ll still need a WordPress.com address for the actual blog, so if you want this domain with a brand new blog, register a new WordPress.com address from your My Blogs page in the dashboard. Then go to that new blog’s dashboard and buy the domain mapping upgrade to connect that blog to your custom domain: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
