Registering users

  I am using the Academia theme. I would like to let people register with my site as users who can add material. It allows me to invite people, but when I do, nothing happens when they accept the invitation. they are not added as users, no matter what setting I try to use. I see no other option to allow people to register with the website. However, other people I know with WordPress websites have this ability to register users, so that when they register, they are given a chance to create their own user name and passwords for the site. How can I do this? Is this a limitation with my theme or a limitation with the level of my website with WordPress?

  Hi there!

  Let’s take another route, to see if you’ll be able to add users in this manner:

  1. First choose what the user’s roles will be. But the sound of it, you want to add contributors. Here’s the breakdown of types of users:
     en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/
  2. Experiment with just one person to start. Send him/her the link to become a user:
     https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/?user=1
  3. After he/she becomes a user, ask for the username.
  4. When you invite this person to be a user, invite him/her via the username, rather than the email address.
