Registration of Domain

    Hi! I’m currently looking into creating a new blog and I hope to use the following URL, http://fifty50.wordpress.com. However, the domain has been registered in 2006 and has been left untouched since then. I’m aware that domains can get expired after a year if it is not renewed. Therefore, why is it that this blog can still be using the domain after so long? If it’s possible, can the domain be cancelled and release to the public again? Really hope to get a response for this soon. Thank you!

    fifty50.wordpress.com is a sub-domain of WordPress.com so it will be around forever until the owner, you, deletes it.

    What expires after an year if you don’t renew is the custom domain name like fifty50.com, which by the way is taken as you can see here: http://whois.domaintools.com/fifty50.com

    So unless you are the owner of fifty50.com, you will never know what plans its owner has for that domain.
