Registration transfer

    Hey guys,

    I tired asking this question once before but I didn’t get the answer I was looking for. I’ll try again.

    I’m trying to transfer my domain, justinsaglio.com, to squarespace. The support pages you guys have linked me to tells me to do things that aren’t available on my screen for some reason. I can’t for example cancel private registration.

    What’s the best way to make sure I can take care of this? Should we chat on the phone? Let me know.

    Hi,

    To confirm, would you like to transfer your domain to a different registrar (like namecheap.com or something else) or simply use the domain with Squarespace?

    Squarespace doesn’t accept incoming transfers of domain names, so you can’t “transfer” your domain to them.

    With the support page, if, as in your case, you do not have private registration upgrade, you can simply skip that step.

    If you’d simply like to use the domain with Squarespace, please let me know and I can make the changes for you. You’ll still need to pay WordPress.com annually to maintain the registration, but visitors will see your Squarespace site.

    That makes sense. Okay what I think I’d like to do in that case is transfer my domain to my bluehost account to keep everything consolidated.

    What do I need to do from here?

    If you can follow the instructions on http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/, it’ll walk you through the steps.

    Since you don’t have private registration, you’ll need to login to the domain manager, unlock the domain, and have the authorization code sent to you. You can do this starting at this point in the instructions: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/#set-the-domain-manager-password

    Then go to BlueHost.com and purchase a domain transfer. It looks like you can do it here: https://www.bluehost.com/cgi/domain

    When you purchase the transfer, it’ll also extend the registration of the domain a year, so your domain will be registered until April 2015.
