Regulus tab label option for ‘home’

Hi – using (and loving) wordpress.com as the home base of a ‘companion’ news/blog site, (i.e. companion to a separate site), using the Regulus 2.1.3 theme. Great customization possibilities and very simple to deploy, *BUT* the only problem is that the default for the label on the first/leftmost tab is “home” … I actually need this to be called something else (like “news”) and suspect others may have this problem. Is there any way to modify it or any alternative theme that would cope with this possibility for a hosted (wordpress.com) blog?

Afraid not. It’s coming right out of the theme files. If you were to change it, you would be changing it for everybody who uses that theme.
It’s kind of a standard label for WordPress themes. I can’t think of any right off that don’t use the word “Home” although I’m sure there are some out there.
If it’s a real important problem for you, you’re best bet would be to grab a copy of the WordPress software and host it yourself or with a hosting service. That way, you can edit the theme and have it display what you want.

Thanks for the quick response; HOWEVER I may have mis-stated my problem– all I meant was for that tab name to be an editable field with a user-defined name, normally with a DEFAULT name of ‘Home’, so the knock-on effects for the wider community would be minimal. Note that in tabbed themes like that, every OTHER tab gets its name from the page name/slug, so why not make this tab ‘soft’ or optional in naming also?
For example, I note that one of the other supplied themes calls this equivalent ‘blog’ instead of home!
Interested to know what you think of this variation…

Best bet would be to send in a feedback suggesting this idea and pointing them to this thread.
You have to remember though that that specific link is just a set link back to teh home page while the rest of the tabs are actually Pages of your blog. They may look simular when you see the blog but the code is coming from two different places.

I have set-up a a number of additional pages. I then went to Dashboard > Options > Reading and changed the ‘front page’ options so my site now opens on the welcome page and my posts appear under the news page.
Maybe this would suit what you were after?
