rel = "author" for wordpress.com accounts
-
Hello:
I was excited to hear about Google’s enhancement to enable article search results queried by author.
I have a wordpress.com account, so I don’t have the software to edit the .php files ( I don’t think….) and am not permitted to embed a plugin.
So, I have a couple of questions:
First, are the twenty-ten and twenty eleven templates already enabled with this feature for wordpress.com accounts? I’ve seen the updates on this, but it’s unclear to me if this was done for the free wordpress accounts.
Secondly, does anyone know of a way I can edit this update into my wordpress.com site?
As I understand it, Google has already added this feature to it’s blogger sites, but I love my Fusion template and am very happy with WordPress. However, the inability to index articles by author name in search results has been a thorn in my side.
I will be greatful for any suggestions, information, and help folks are willing to provide
Cheers :)

I have flagged this thread for moving to the Themes Forum where you can get an answer from Staff.
However, the inability to index articles by author name in search results has been a thorn in my side.
You can create a Category under each author’s name and have them assign it to all of their posts.

Thanks for your help and for the quick response, Timethief.
For now, I’ll follow your suggestion while I await a clarifying response to the underlying dilemma I referenced.
Thanks again :)

Understood. :) As very few wordpress.com themes allow for automatically assigning names to multiple authors on posts one of the common questions volunteers on the forum are asked is how to achieve this. Perhaps you would be interested in reading about the WordPress options available in my post. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2007/12/11/multiple-author-wordpress-blogs/

Hi gracefulinfluence, Twenty Eleven has been updated to take advantage of rel=”author” and Twenty Ten will be. Some of our newer themes will take advantage of this and, perhaps, some of our older themes in future updates.
I hope that helps!
