Related Posts Help
-
Thanks WP for adding related posts. Because my site is private, I could not use Zemanta, and it’s good to know now that my readers can use this feature. :) With that said, how can site owners edit related posts, like maybe add a picture to the corresponding post?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Without knowing which theme you are using, it seems that if you choose a featured image for each post, then a small thumbnail will appear next to each related post.
-
Images for the related posts are disabled by default, but you can enable them in Settings->Reading.
Glad to hear you like them!

I need to know how this Related post feature works. Last time I recall, this feature was auto-pulling posts from across the WP network, which isn’t suitable for all kinds of blogs (particularly mine). I had that feature disabled, but the new one seems to be enabled by default.

This looks very promising then. I have 14K posts in my blog, I certainly don’t mind this feature based on how it is implemented, compared to last time :)

Very nice feature actually – apart from half the suggestions on my blog show a little flag icon that I used on bilingual posts – and now that the icon is removed from the posts, the “related links” still show it.
But I guess I can turn the thumbnails off even if they look nicer.

@ismailimail we currently only show related posts if the current post has at least 500 bytes of title+content_tags+categories (about 100 words of English). We found that with very short amounts of content it was significantly harder to make consistently good recommendations.
We hope to make many improvements in the future, and reduce the number of posts we are excluding.

Hello,
are you talking here about Zemanta or about other option? I tried Zemanta to search only post on my blog and it doesn’t work so good. And there are no images for the related posts. Maybe I’m doing something wrong. I have searched in Settings-> reading the option to active the images for the related post but I don`t find it. Please, I need some help here.Thank you very much for your help.

Hi @theslowpace
This thread is indeed talking about the Related Posts feature that we just launched for everyone on WordPress.com today.
It was out for a limited number of blogs before the full launch for a couple days prior as a test of our systems but at this point you should see this feature enabled and you may configure it by going to Settings → Reading in your Dashboard.

Okay. And how can I suppress that showing of “related” posts???
Because I want NOT other persons nor robots to tell me and my readers what’s “related” …
-
Ah – found it by myself. In german I have to uncheck all options at Related Posts in
«Einstellungen &nmdash;> Lesen»
I missed a message: “We gave you the possibility to activate [ this or that ] – i.e. in a pop up (but I don’t want to pop up layers in the reader).

Hi, has there been a recent change to this feature? Your algorithm now seems to only pull related posts from the fairly recent archives, where as before, I was getting related but old posts from the archives. Now the related posts are hardly relevant but only recent.

Howdy @ismailimail & @timethief
The Expound theme is still using its own related post functionality to generate content which relies solely on post categories instead of the content of posts themselves.
We are planning to change this soon so that it will use the new related posts feature to calculate relatedness of posts which should make the results more relevant.

Hello, I’ve just been searching about this… The related content option for me (zemanta) only suggests articles from other sites. How can I set it so that it only shows me related content suggestions from my own blog content as I’d love to be able to automatically be able to add links to other posts on my blog!
