Related Posts sticking to the same posts all the time

Hi! My blog has a recurring feature we post every Friday called “Ask a Bookseller”. This feature is very popular, and we want our audience to read this post and then browse the other content on our site that is more directly related to our products. Currently the related posts at the bottom of each Ask a Bookseller posts just display other Ask a Bookseller posts. We’d like them to display other posts.

I know there is no way to override what’s displayed, but is there any way we can work around this? It’s not suitable for us to change the title or content currently on the Ask a Bookseller posts. I have already updated the tags so that lots of our posts have the same 4 tags, and this hasn’t changed anything. We’d prefer not to change their category (also called Ask a Bookseller).

Any insight into how related posts are determined would be really appreciated, as would any ideas for guiding our readers to posts that are not other Ask a Bookseller posts.

Can somebody also please confirm that premium users cannot use plugins?

    I use the Suburbia theme.

    Thank you!

    That’s confirmed.

Blogger installed plugin capability does not exist on WordPress.COM blogs and there is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality. You are confusing WordPress.ORG and WordPress.COM. For that type of functionality you’d need a self-hosted WordPress.ORG site running on a paid web hosting service.

The Related Posts feature http://en.support.wordpress.com/related-posts/ automatically generates links to what it detects as related content. There is not a way to manually change what content appears there.

If you don’t find the feature useful, you are welcome to turn it off.

Some bloggers prefer to manually create links to posts they choose, instead.

The related posts feature looks at a number of elements within the post (including the post title, content, tags, and categories) and compares those to other posts to look for similarities. Tags, categories, and keywords are all things that will help signal that posts could be related, but they are just one piece and won’t guarantee that posts are selected as related posts. As you publish more posts it should get more accurate, but in the end if you are unhappy with the results or have particular related posts in mind, I’d recommend manually creating a list of related posts instead of using this feature.
