Relaunch existing blog

After analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of my existing blog, I’ve decided to change things up so much (focus, design, layout) I’m wondering if beginning a new blog is a better alternative to modifying my existing one. If so, can I prep it in private, then import the content from blog 1, then launch it? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Do you want to keep your old visitors and Posts or do you want to start over from zero?

Complete new subject & focus or just a bend in the road? Sort of a change of course?

You can export your content and import it to a new site and do the change of Theme and look in a test site that is set to Private (never duplicate content, Google hates that) – then change the look and feel of your present site to match what you liked in the Private test site.

That keeps your old visitors in the loop so to speak – then you just put a note on your site that says “my interests have change and my blog is going in a new direction” – most blogs change a bit over time.

A few things for you to think about – others will probably pitch in a bit depending on your feedback.

Thanks. Definitely want to keep existing readers and posts. Guess I’d describe it as a pretty significant bend in the road. Your suggestions are helpful.

You can also preview different Themes – Dashboard >> Appearance >>

Then you can click on “Preview a Theme” and it should show you your blog with the existing content displayed in the different Theme – just make sure you don’t click on “Activate” – that will give you a bit better idea of how things look without setting up a test blog. The Theme’s always look different with live content.
