Release deleted domain back to me please

  • Unknown's avatar

Can somebody please help me regain control of my domain? I have a similar problem to this: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/release-deleted-domain/

I purchased the domain jenniebyrne.co.uk and a WordPress plan on Friday, but a few hours later deleted the plan and the domain has now gone with it. I need to regain control but everywhere I go to repurchase says the domain jenniebyrne.co.uk is taken.

Can my domain be reinstated to me please?

  • Hey there,

You canceled the domain within 5 days of registering it, so it should be available again soon. It’s been 5 days already (8/26), so we don’t have much time to restore it from our end. Once a domain name is deleted by the registry at this stage, it is immediately available for registration by any registrant through any Registrar, and that happens shortly after the 5 day grace period.

We can immediately restore the domain for you within that 5 day period, but after that we no longer have control over it. So, depending on where you want to register the domain (with us or elsewhere), you should decide ASAP on how you want it re-registered. You can always point the domain over to your host from WordPress.com until 60 days of registration hits (where you can transfer the domain anywhere you please). That will at least guarantee you will get it back without any potential complications.

Please confirm and we’ll send over a manual payment.

    Thanks!

Thank you for your help! I’m looking to use that domain on HubSpot, so it sounds like it might just be best to wait a few more days for it to become available again and I can re-buy it through HubSpot instead, as it sounds like if I had you restore it now on WordPress, I wouldn’t be able to transfer it for 60 days.

Unfortunately, when you cancel/delete a doman it does not become available for registration again immediately — even if you deleted it after just a minute later.

This is how domains work everywhere, and not something imposed by WordPress.com.

As was explain in the post you link to, the domain will be released AFTER 5 days. It seems you purchased and cancelled the domain on 26th, so the domain should be removed from the registry later today or tomorrow.

But note that after the domain is released, it becomes available for ANYONE to grab it. Provided no one else grabs it before you, then you can register it again elsewhere.

As was again explained in the other thread, if you want to be SURE that you regain control of the domain, then have WordPress.com purchase it again for you, point the name server to your preferred host, and then move it away after the mandatory 60 days (again, this 60-day limit is how domains work, not something imposed by WordPress.com).

  • No, you couldn’t transfer it.

But if HubSpot offers the ability to use domains registered elsewhere, the you should be able to update the nameservers here to point to HubSpot.

    https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/change-name-servers/e

It looks as though these are HubSpot’s instructions for doing so:

    https://knowledge.hubspot.com/domains-and-urls/connect-a-domain-to-hubspot

…but I’m not super familiar with HubSpot’s services, so you’d want to check with their support team to verify.

Or, just wait a few more days and hope you can grab the domain again.

    Hi all,

Thanks for your comments. I decided to wait for it to be rereleased, but it’s been almost 2 weeks since I cancelled the plan now and the domain still hasn’t been released. Does anyone know why?

  • Unknown's avatar

Is it still possible to restore my domain to WordPress so I can redirect to HubSpot please?

  • Hi there, sorry for the confusion! Because the domain was not canceled in the grace period, it remains with us until it expires.

Since you received a refund for the domain, I have sent a payment request for $18 to the email address on your account.

Once the payment is sent, please reply here to let us know, and we will recover jenniebyrne.co.uk.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you so much, I’ve now made the payment. Could you please recover the domain?

  • Payment received, and jenniebyrne.co.uk has been recovered!

You can now direct the domain anywhere by changing its name servers: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/change-name-servers/

And, in 60 days (a limit imposed on all registrars by the organization which oversees us), you’ll be able to transfer it: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/transfer-domain-registration/

Please let us know if you need any further assistance!

    Hello,

Sorry, I’m back with some other issues. I’ve been trying to connect my domain to HubSpot using the article that was sent to me above. I’ve put in the new name servers and DNS records that HubSpot have told me to.

HubSpot said everything looks accurate when I sent them a screenshot of my DNS records from WordPress, but for some reason every time I try to verify the updates, HubSpot says “Record not found”. It’s been days since I updated the records.

It briefly connected yesterday but said it was confirming SSL certificate, then overnight disconnected itself and now won’t reconnect, claiming again that “Record not found”.

Does anyone know why it’s not connecting?

  • Hi there,

I checked and it looks like the nameservers were updated correctly. However, when I checked the DNS status, it does appear that there are several errors, particularly with missing records:

    https://intodns.com/jenniebyrne.co.uk

I would show that to HubSpot and make sure that there are not any other records that need to be added – it is mentioned that there are missing A Records in particular.

If you would like, please provide me with the records that HubSpot provided you and I can confirm on this end that they were added correctly.

    Thanks!

Thank you for looking into this, so when I go to HubSpot, it tells me there are two records they need are as following:

    Record 1:

    Record Type: A
    Host: @
    Required data: 199.60.103.38

    Record 2:

    Record Type: A
    Host: @
    Required data: 199.60.103.138

Also, it mentions about pre-provisioning SSL to avoid downtime, and gives me the below data to include:

    Record type: CNAME
    Host: _ca3-c33f6eae13354f25b62287a674c0a107
    Required data: dcv.digicert.com

    Record type: TXT
    Host: _cf-custom-hostname
    Required data: 5ee71d99-43d8-488d-9785-79fe86e96fe6

But, I don’t know if this is actually required or if its just meant to avoid downtime as the description meant.

  • Thanks for sharing. I am not seeing any difference between what you provided and what you added to your DNS records. Please reach out to HubSpot with https://intodns.com/jenniebyrne.co.uk and verify that all the records they provided are needed.

I am not seeing anything missing from our end, but want to hear what they say in light of the errors.

    Thanks!

Hello, thank you for your help. I didn’t exactly get a response from HubSpot, they were just trying to push me to update my subscription. So instead, I’ve invested some time and will be using WordPress going forward.

I’ve run into a small issue though. I’m trying to copy a Google Analytics 4 code into my theme editor but I don’t have that option and from some research it says I need to update security settings.

I was watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDW_QQNZgcc

However, I don’t even seem to have the Security option in my dashboard. Can someone please enable me to see/update the Theme Editor under the Appearance tab so I can add in my GA4 tracking code please?

  • Hi there, to add Google Analytics to a site hosted here, you’ll first need a paid plan (any paid plan) and then follow the steps at https://wordpress.com/support/google-analytics/

Since the paid plans come with a free domain, if you do purchase one from https://wordpress.com/plans please let us know here, and we’ll refund the $18 you paid earlier.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you, I’ve upgraded my subscription, if you would be able to refund the £18 for the domain use.

  • Excellent, I have refunded the $18 and attached jenniebyrne.co.uk to the new Personal plan. :)

Please let us know if you need any further assistance!
