Release Domain

  Hello,

  I registered a domain on wordpress.com on Sun Aug 30th 2015 and cancelled it within 72 hours (next day- Mon Aug 31st).
  I am trying now to register the domain on bluehost.com but it says domain is unavailable.
  Please, could you support in releasing the domain and advise when I can expect it to be released? Wednesday September 2nd 2015 hopefully?

  Sorry, won’t happen.

  It takes a week or longer for a canceled name to be released by the registrar, note also, the registrar is under no obligation to release the name, they might auction it or someone else might register it

  The staff MIGHT be able to retrieve it for you, but it can’t be transferred to another registrar for 60 days (internet rules) – but the name servers should be able to be pointed to your new host.

  Hello,

  If the staff is able to retreive it- can they please let me know?
  And if not- how can I bid for it if they auction it? Do you have insight if they auction it or not?

  Hi there,

  When a newly registered domain is cancelled right away, it’s usually released within 1-2 weeks. (In many cases I’ve seen the domain become available again within 4-5 days, but it can sometimes take a bit longer.) There isn’t an auction or anything — it just takes a little time for the domain to be fully cancelled and released again.

  If you want to use the domain at Bluehost and don’t mind waiting just a bit longer, I’d recommend waiting for the domain to be fully cancelled so you can register it directly there. If you prefer to try to recover and pay for it here at WordPress.com, so you can try to get it back right away, let me know and I’ll try to get it back for you. :)

  Thank you Rachel! That helps alot.
  I will wait for the domain to be released and if I have other questions I will be sure to post back here.
  I thought about recovering it on wordpress.com but I want to be able to edit/ download a theme.
