Release Domain after Quick Cancellation
-
Hello WordPress,
I purchased the Personal plan on November 30th, 2023 and submitted a cancellation yesterday on December 2, 2023 as I realized this plan doesn’t currently meet my needs for my website. As I am starting a new business, I cannot at the moment afford the Business plan. I intend to switch over to WordPress.org and if my venture is successful I might switch back WordPress.com
Now that my domain was cancelled (it came along free with my plan), I was wondering if there is any way that that I could get it back as I’d really like to use it.
Now I did read the warnings that came in the email, but I saw the following thread where someone’s domain was released after WordPress contacted the registrar so it was available for the owner to purchase again.
Could this also be done for me? What are my options? I would really appreciate your help.
WP.com: Yes
Jetpack: No
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Are you considering using your domain again on your WordPress.com site, or do you have plans to use it on a different platform?
If you’d like to keep it here on WordPress.com, I can send you a link to pay for the domain only, and then I’ll get it restored for you. Just remember that, in this case, it will only redirect to your free WordPress.com address. To make the domain the primary address people see when they visit your site, you’ll need to upgrade to one of our plans.
Now, if you’d rather use it somewhere else and don’t mind waiting a few days, your domain should become available again later this week. Then, you’ll be able to register it directly with the provider where you want to use it. If you don’t want to wait, I can still restore it manually for you, as mentioned above, and then help you point it to the other provider.
Just let me know what works best for you.

Hi Ftstat,
Thank you for getting back to me. I will go with another provider at the moment so if you could restore it manually, I would be really grateful.

Thanks @fluencywithvanessa, I’ve just sent an invoice your way. Once that’s paid, update us here and we’ll restore it for you.
Then you can change its settings to connect to another host for now, and transfer it out after 60 days. All the best!

Hi Supernovia,
The domain has already been released so I was able to buy it directly from another registrar. The issue has been resolved. Thank you for your help. ) -
