Releasing my domain name.

Hi,
Several months ago I spoke to a representative on the phone, asking to release my domain name, because I meant to use wordpress.org instead. I was told my domain would be released from wordpress in 7-10 days and then I could repurchase it. Now, several months later, as I am looking to build my website again, I see that it has still not been released by wordpress. I have the conversation in my email where I was told it would be released from March 19th. Can someone please help me with this?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We have never provided phone support on WordPress.com, so whoever you spoke to, it wasn’t us.
I do see you had a live chat with us in March, but in that chat we warned you that cancelling the domain would make you run the risk of losing it, and we did not make guarantees regarding if or when the domain might be available again.
Your domain is currently still in our control, and will be until it expires in March next year and then goes through the redemption process. We have no way of manually releasing the domain before then.
I can still restore the domain to your account at this point, but as you were refunded when you cancelled it in March you will need to pay for it again. Please confirm if you would like to have the domain restored, and I can send you a link to pay for it again.

You’re right! My mistake, it was the chat, not via phone. And you’re also probably right there was no guarantee, just a suggestion of time it would take for the domain to be renewed.
Im a little confused as to why I have to pay again, though. When I spoke with the representative via live chat, It was my understanding that getting the refund would relinquish the domain from wordpress’s control, so I could repurchase it elsewhere. I was given the option of having WordPress hold onto the domain for 22$, but I chose the full refund instead. Can you please clarify why WordPress still has control of my domain and why I have to pay again to get it back after that conversation I had?

You cancelled the domain after the refund period of 48 hours had already passed, and the Happiness Engineer who issued the refund was actually issuing a late refund. But we could not get a refund any more from the registry that controls this domain extension for the domain at that point, so we essentially refunded you out of our own pocket. That is also why the domain has not been released yet – a domain is only released within a few days if we are able to still cancel it within the refund period at the registry that controls it.
