remapping domain name from WP

  • Unknown's avatar

I may be “remapping” my domain name from WP to another site. I’m re-designing a website to better showcase my photography.
I’ve looked at various WP photography templates but can’t seem to find one that meets my needs.
Unfortunately I’m not that CSS savvy and looking to set up the site ASAP.

What steps do I have to take to remap my domain elsewhere, and would my WP blog revert back to it’s former WP URL address… hipshooter2.wordpress.com?

Thanks always for the support! ~A~

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. In other words, you want your current domain name to point to your new host (instead of your existing WordPress.com site)?

Unless your domain name was purchased through WordPress.com, you really should be asking this question to your new hosting provider and your domain name registrar instead.

However, I can say that yes, once you change where your domain name points to, your existing WordPress.com site will only become accessible via your old address that ends in .wordpress.com. Is that what you want?

Airodyssey, yes! I wasn’t certain if I had to notify WP and/or my domain name
registrar regarding this. Sounds like both parties will need to know of the change.

Would you happen to know since I paid the WP domain mapping fee, if I could
use the WP mapping for another domain in the near future, or get a partial
    refund/credit?

I will keep my WP blog, but will give it a template facelift to coincide with a new
    website. :)

You will need to change the name servers to point to your new host – that is done where your domain name is registered.

You can’t get a partial refund on domain mapping – but you should be able to have the domain mapping transferred to a new blog – you would need staff help for that.

    Auxclass, thank you.
If I do the domain mapping to another blog I would have to get another domain name
to map the new blog to, correct?

yes – Domain mapping requires you to register another name (or use an existing name) – domain mapping needs a name to change the base blog into – i.e.

    your-site.wordpress.com becomes your-site.com
