Remapping site
-
Good Afternoon,
I already have a wordpress blog but it is hosted or mapped, or I don’t even know what you call it, but it is through Practical Social Media and I would like to just host it myself on wordpress (which I understand requires the premium membership). My question is, am I able to do that without any site downtime (meaning my current site still works until I set things up here) and do I lose all of my current content? Is there anyway to make an easy transition?
I’m happy to do the upgrade, just want to know what to expect and if I should hold off on cancelling the other service for now.
Thank you for the insight,

Are you asking how to move a wordpress.ORG site to wordpress.COM?

Hello,
If it is already a WordPress blog you should be able to pull a WordPress export file from ‘Practical Social Media’ to be able to upload into WordPress.com.
Once you have the export file, you should be ready to start uploading. Go to your WordPress.com dashboard and on the left toolbar at the bottom you will see “Settings.” Click Settings>Import (along the top menu bar – the furthest right). Here you will see WordPress pre-loaded and even a link to an import guide.
Once uploaded you will have to reformat for themes, menu structure, logo, colors, ect.
Once you have the design set; you will have to test and debug as needed. You need to check all your links, media, plugins, images, widgets, ect.
From here this is where the term mapping comes in. For your Domain Mapping, go back to the left tool bar where is says Domains. On this page you will see a button “Add Domain” in blue. From here you can choose your options.
Hope this helps!
