Removal of domain mapping.
-
This past November my blog http://kh6jrmdotcom.wordpress was deleted without my knowledge. I never received a note, except to say an author deleted the blog. I was the administrator of that blog, and, of course lost that function when the blog was removed. Despite some excellent advice and encouragement from the wordpress volunteer staff, I was unable to restore the blog. So, I proceeded to create a new blog, which is working very well. However, when I search the “My Sites” and “My Blogs” sites in this new blog, I find the domain mapping for the old blog (http://kh6jrmdotcom.wordpress) remains fully intact and somewhat useful, with me assigned as an editor. That domain mapping is set to http://kh6jrm.com. As editor, I can’t transfer my old stats and followers to the new blog, because I lack the administrative function I once had. As editor, I lack the “Store” function on the navigation bar (left column of my theme), so I can’t ask for an off-site redirect (301).
Would it be possible to do anyone of the following, since I no longer need the deleted blog or its domain map?
1. Delete the kh6jrm.com domain mapping.
2. Get a 301 off-site redirect for the old, deleted blog.
3. Or just wait until the old domain mapping expires in October 2015.
Please advise.Russ Roberts

Hey Russ!
Currently, it doesn’t appear as though the kh6jrmdotcom.wordpress.com site is deleted. So, while you will not be able to transfer the upgrade or cancel it (only the owner of the upgrade can do that), you should be able to setup a Site Redirect upgrade on that site:
Can you let me know if I misunderstood?

Thanks for your help, Jeremylduvall. I would like to set up a site redirect, but, since losing my admin priveleges (I was the admin until the blog side was deleted), I’ve been downgraded to editor with no access to the Store function on my navigation bar. I just visited the site today and there is no “store” function listed for my current privileges. So, without the store, I can’t order a site redirect. When I type in http://kh6jrmdotcom.wordpress, I get “site deleted.” I don’t know how my admin capability was removed…I never authorized it or got any message that it was being removed. I probably made a foolish mistake somewhere in the recent past and blog deletion was the result. For that I apologize. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Happy Holidays! Aloha, Russ Roberts.

Aloha Jeremeylduvall,
I managed to get into the site redirect portion of the store through the link you supplied. But, all the site would allow me to do was to redirect my current blog (http://kh6jrm.net) to my now deleted older blog (http://kh6jrm.com). I tried substituting the old blog into the blank redirect space, but that didn’t work. I want to keep the new domain (kh6jrm.net) and not the old one which has been deleted. When I signed into the old blog (http://kh6jrmdotcom.wordpress), I got the same “site deleted” message. I still don’t have the ability to have a site direct to my new domain (kh6jrm.net). Kind of frustrating. Thanks for your help. Aloha, Russ. -
Hey Russ,
Sorry, I think I got a bit mixed up by the .com vs .net versions of the domain. Just so I’m clear, the ultimate goal is to get kh6jrm.com to redirect/point to kh6jrmdotnet.wordpress.com, which is your site that has the domain kh6jrm.net on it currently. Is that correct?
-
Yes, that’s correct. I want kh6jrm.com to redirect to kh6jrm.net. Thanks for your help. It’s a bit confusing. Aloha, RUSS Roberts.

Thanks for the clarification Russ. Since that domain is currently owned by a different user, the only way to make this happen would be one of the following options:
- The current owner of the domain would need to contact WordPress.com Support at help@wordpress.com and ask that ownership of the domain be transferred to your account. Then, I could help you move it around.
- The current owner would have to cancel the domain or let it expire. Then, you could eventually purchase it on your own site.
-
Thanks for giving me some options, Jeremeyduvall. I’ve contacted support and asked for domain transfer to my kh6jrm.net account. If that doesn’t work, I’ll let the old domain (kh6jrm.com) expire this year. Thanks for your help. Aloha, Russ

Great Russ! Just to confirm, did you contact support from the email address or account associated with prgnewshawaii or from the account currently setup as the owner on kh6jrm.com? In order to transfer the domain, we would need the request to come from the latter (the domain owner).
