Removal of "old trash"

  • Unknown's avatar

When I refresh my front page (or any other page/post) that includes the header/logo/tagline etc) all the old fonts and background colors shows up for about half a second before it goes to the setting I use right now.

I can see in the inspector that my old font is still there, creating a collision with the ones Im using at the moment.

it help to remove it in the inspector but I cannot save it in any way..

    CSS?

    Thank you for any help!

According to WordPress.com staff, the default font will display briefly while the page renders. There is the option to hide the text with CSS while the page loads: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/illustratr-theme-keeps-switching-between-default-font-and-custom-font?replies=13#post-2462582

    Thank you for answer (:

yes, default font etc I can understand/accept, at least to a certain point – but not my old “testing-fonts” which has been changed over the days etc.
Even old header-images is flashing when the website is loading.

Its like every change I do adds some kind of “layer” and wont go away, all the layers seems to “load” before my present settings comes in the end. (sorry for bad explaination?)

I`ll check out the link you gave me (:
    Hopefully that will help

Sorry for the silly question – have you been deleting all your old changes that you don’t need? If the old changes are still hanging around someplace they will load before your desired final changes

  • Unknown's avatar

its not a silly question at all and I am happy to hear that this is something I can do.
-I have been searching for the opportunity to do this but I dont know how.

I find a lot of old trash in the inspector, but deleting anything here is not lasting, only for previewing.

Can you please tell me how I do this?

    Thank you!

I am not a CSS person – but the few times I looked at the editor window – it was not very big if my memory is correct – try scrolling up and see if you forgot to delete the old changes –

The CSS here is a bit strange – the main WordPress.COM CSS files are scanned first – then your change file is scanned and last on scanned rules – so if you have early changes way up in the top of the editor that will not help – and since you have the proper changes later on the last scanned would override any left over changes

sorry can’t be of more help

Are you talking about the CSS-edito window, the small window in “custimise” – “CSS”?

No old CSS there that shouldnt be there.

I havent had the time to check out the link provided by @micawbr but will do when I get home from work

Theres a lot of funny things happening at the moment. I see that the post-textings all of a sudden is “centered” on most of my posts/pages.
It certainly shouldnt be that, and I wonder why these things happen.
    Is it just a buggy-WP?

    Hi there,

It’s possible that some of the old customizations you made are saved locally in your browser. Please clear your browser’s cache to see if that makes a difference for you.

If you continue to have trouble with it, please let me know exactly what you’re seeing (what old font and background color you had selected before, for example) so I can continue investigating that.

    Hello and thank you!
It happens everywhere, on my pc, both my mobiles and my pc at work.

It only happens when I enter my website from a different site – not when I’m already there and just refresh it.

You can see it it my heading, it goes black/dark before my present heading appear.
Also the site title and tagline shows my previous fonts for a brief moment.

Other strange things have started to happen also, like all my posts textings has gone centered all of a sudden (I have a different thread in the forum for that one)

    Whoop… Sorry) :

Have you cleared your browser cache on each of the devices you mentioned? If that doesn’t resolve the issue, it will rule out one possible cause and help me continue troubleshooting the problem for you.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, everything deleted. It also happens when I check website on a new device.

You can easily see it on the site tagling – “Treningonline” – when it loads you can see a flash of an old font lying beneath it..

  • Unknown's avatar

You may see a flash of the theme’s default font when you load the site — that helps your content load more quickly so your visitors don’t have to wait as long for the content to appear. However, that’s unrelated to other fonts or customizations you previously had on the site. Are the other issues you’re seeing when you load the site?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yes I see (:
But its not the default font, its my previous one, and it was so “artistic” that I instantly changed it to what I use now.

Do you see it when you enter the site?

Its also the header-image that I used before, it was dark, almost black. This also flashes briefly.

    —-

Other than that? yes, all my textings has gone “centered” (): and I cannot “left” it back in edit mode.

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t see any font other than the theme’s default font — that’s the one on the Baskerville demo site — and then the custom font you selected. What font did you have before?

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok rachel, I see now that I might have been wrong – it does look like the Baskeville default font…its very similiar to a font I tested earlier..
Sorry if I wasted your time and thanks for trying to help (:

maybe its just my computer that is slow but, I think there is a lot of flashing when my website reloads, but if this is normal with a wordpress-site I guess I can live with that.

    Have a nice day (:

  • Unknown's avatar

It’s no problem at all. :) Since you have the WordPress.com Premium plan on your site, you can also use custom CSS to hide the text on the page until your custom font loads, if you prefer. (That will avoid the default font from appearing, but it will also make the text on the page load more slowly.) If you want to try that, you can use the approach described here:
