Remove -2 from url link
-
Hi,
I have a resume and portfolio site where the link shows as:
https://lauraisherwoodcooper.wordpress.com/portfolio-2/I’ve tried to remove the “2” from the link address, without any luck. I assume that portfolio existed as a page before but I cannot find the page. I have searched through my pages, including deleted pages and cannot find it.
Does anyone know how I can make the portfolio link show as:
https://lauraisherwoodcooper.wordpress.com/portfolio/Any help is very much appreciated.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @laurasupercoops,
To change the URL of your portfolio page, you should first check if there’s another page with the same name in your Trash. Here are the steps to follow:
Check the Trash:
- Go to
Pages > All Pages. - Click on the
Trashlink at the top. - Look for any pages named “Portfolio” and delete them permanently.

Edit the Slug:
- Go back to
Pages > All Pages. - Find your current “Portfolio-2” page and click
Edit. - Under the title of the page, you’ll see the URL slug. Click
Editnext to it and change it to “portfolio”. - Save your changes.
These steps should help you remove the “2” from your portfolio link. Let me know if you need any further assistance!

Since it looks like you created your own static Portfolio page, you won’t be able to set up that slug without the -2.
The
/portfolio/slug is a reserved URL, like/author/and/archive/meaning that it is built into the database that WordPress uses. When you create Portfolio projects on your site, they can be accessed at the automatically generated/portfolio/slug. You can add that URL to a menu as well and whenever anyone clicks on it, they’ll be taken to the page where your portfolio projects appear. Here’s more about Portfolio https://wordpress.com/support/portfolios/ and your theme guide has information as well https://wordpress.com/theme/illustratr
If you want to use a different URL, like “projects” or “work” that can be done without issue.
Hope that helps explain.
