remove a document

Hi
I have removed a document from my wordpress site (and deleted it from my media folder). I have now uploaded an updated version of the document. However the old version is still coming up on Google – is there anything I can do to remove this?

To keep things running quickly around here, files are held in multiple caches through a separate system. These caches are usually cleared within 3 days and the files will then become 404 page not found.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Deleting public blogs and/or blog content from them does not remove indexed content from the SERPs (search engine page results). Google and Bing only clear their caches of deleted indexed content that produces a 404 (page not found) every 3 – 6 months. To completely remove an entire page from Google search results after it produces a 404 (page not found):

Hi there,
As timethief mentioned, we do cache files and it can take a bit of time after they are deleted for them to be removed from our cache.
If you let me know the URL of the file I can make sure it is removed from our cache, however Google will also cache files and there is not anything that we can do to remove the file from Google’s cache. You will need to follow the link timethief provided to get more information on that.

Thank you. I have tried the link you’ve given, thank you, but not had any luck so far (might have to sweet talk a more IT-literate friend!)
The URL is https://volunteeringinhealth.wordpress.com/support-us/voluntary-opportunities/ – it’s the Volunteer Application Form at the bottom of the page, a word document. (The version there is the new one that I want to keep)
The old one that I want to remove is still there when I search “dbsassist.co.uk/ucheck volunteering in health”
It’s 7th on the list for me, this one:

I’ve just realised that I’ve copied the password there so that is probably going to cause more problems!! Can I edit that post?!!

It looks like that file has now been removed from our servers completely. While Google still has the search results, if you click on it, you get a 404 error, which means that the file itself no longer exists.
In regards to the password, I have redacted it off of the help ticket, so no one can see it. :)
