Remove a Navigation Bar?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
For aznist.wordpress.com, I would like to remove the navigation bar on the left, containing “Topics” and “Archives.” It gets in the way of pictures. Help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

The sidebar is part of the design of the theme – you can’t remove it. And your problem is not the sidebar, it’s using very large images in a 3-column flexible-width theme. You could switch to a 2-column flexible-width theme, or downsize the images, or switch to a fixed-width theme that will constrain the images to the maximum width available. (In all three cases, you can display medium-size images and have them link to the full-size original.)

    aznist,

With the CSS upgrade, it is possible to remove the sidebar.

Alright. Well, I was thinking of changing the templates, but a lot of the flexible width themes that work for my images, such as Shocking Blue Green, Silver is the New Black, and WordPress Classic, displays full posts instead of links like Fadtastic does (Fadtastic goes “Recently on Aznist…” and displays links to posts while the other templates display a bomb of posts). Is there also no way to change posts into links for the other templates? I’m trying not to aim for a one post per page thing.

It would be nice to have the option of having sidebar either on the side, or across the top. When it was across the top, I did not need to scroll down my page to find things. It actually takes longer now (to find things), which isn’t very intuitive.

I found a nice way to solve this problem. The main sidebar that appeared in front of pictures had default widgets when no widgets were added. So, I added the text widget containing no text and now there is no navigation bar!

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Hats off to Aznist.
