Remove a notification

My blog is about surviving sexual abuse. Someone came and like a recent post and they have a pornographic avatar and name. This is abusive towards me. I have removed the post, but still have the notification with the pornographic avatar in my notifications. Can you help me get rid of this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, If you are talking about the notifications in the Admin bar, I don’t know if it’s possible to remove the notification, so I’ve left this thread tagged for Staff input.

There are two things that you can do to prevent a recurrence:

In your WP Admin Dashboard you have the option under Discussion settings to only allow Gravatars at a certain rating (G, PG, R and X) Go here https://abrokenbluesky.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-discussion.php and scroll down the page a bit until you see it and change the rating as needed. Remember to save your changes.

You can also ban that specific user from liking any post on your site by following these instructions: https://en.support.wordpress.com/comment-likes/#%C2%A0how-to-manage-comment-likes Since a Gravatar profile is linked to a person’s email address, that is what you should use.

If you wish to report that specific user for abuse, you can do so by (unfortunately) going to their Gravatar profile while logged in to WordPressdotcom and using the “report abuse” link at the very bottom of the sidebar.

Hope that helps. Hopefully Staff will be able to remove the offending notification for you.

Note to Staff, thanks for adding the ability to ban specific Likes. Very much appreciated.

  • I do not know of any way to do that, I’m afraid.

It is functionality we should perhaps consider though.

Thank you, everyone, for your comments.

The offending notification seems to be gone. Not sure if someone from WordPress removed it, or it just finally caught up to the fact that I deleted the post. (I deleted the post when the offender liked it, then reposted it under a different title.) The ability to simply remove or reject someone’s Like would be a great feature addition, as well as the ability to delete notifications.

I checked my settings, and I do have the gravatar setting at “G,” so this person did not set their gravatar level appropriately.

Banning a specific user is an awesome feature! I will make note of that. Unfortunately, I no longer remember this person’s name. If this should happen again though, I will certainly do that.

I did click the report button as soon as it happened. I doubt I will be informed of the outcome of that report, but I did report it in any case.

Again, thank you for all of the great advice!

    Blue Sky

  • Thanks Blue Sky, and thanks for reporting the user. The community guardians don’t respond to every report, but they do review each one, so I’m guessing that’s what happened here.

Thanks for your patience as well as your feedback!

  • Note to Staff, thanks for adding the ability to ban specific Likes. Very much appreciated.

Thanks @justjennifer :) I’ve noted that and added a vote for you as well as @abrokenbluesky .
