Remove a reblogged post

I would like to know if WordPress has any surefire ways to force someone to remove a reblogged post. (I am aware of the fact that DMCA doesn’t apply here.) Someone who has a blog that disseminates beliefs and content that I find highly objectionable and with which I would never want to be associated has reblogged a post of mine. My post is utterly unrelated to this site’s usual content, and the choice of my post for reblog seems random. I have left a comment–still in moderation at this time–on the reblog demanding that the post be taken down for the reason(s) outlined above. However, if this person fails to acquiesce, I need to know what my options are. I refuse to allow them to use my content on their site, regardless of whether they credit me for it or not–I will not have my work associated with their site. Does anyone know what course(s) of action I may have if they refuse to remove the post?

Thanks for any help; obviously I am hoping that this individual removes the post as requested/demanded, but I want to be prepared in case he will not.

  • Hi there,

The only way to prevent someone form reblogging your content is to disable reblogs completely, though that won’t prevent them from manually sharing your content.

By accepting our terms of service and enabling reblogs on your site, you agreed to any WordPress.com being able to reblog your content. While you can ask someone to not reblog or to remove a reblog, there is no way to force them to do it. This is a WordPress.com feature that any WordPress.com user can use if it’s enabled on a particular site. There’s no rule that says someone’s site must have related content to your before they’re allowed to make use of this feature.

If you don’t like sites you object to from sharing your content, you need to set your site to private so they can’t access it. Anything that’s public on the web can be shared by anyone otherwise.

Thank you for your reply. That is disheartening, but is directly from the WP page related to reblogged content and is therefore not a surprise to me.

In this case, the blogger has removed my post content per my request. However, a photo–which is OF ME and watermarked by my photographer–remains on the main page of his blog where the post was. I have demanded that he remove that as well, or I will be filing a DMCA notice to secure its removal. He does not have Fair Use rights to post a photo OF ME with no context or credit on his webpage.
