Remove an obsolete free Holding Site
-
Hi. I put up a free wordpress Holding Site some years ago under:
https://maryoregancounselling.wordpress.com/
Recently I paid a website designer to design a totally new and comprehensive WordPress website and this has now been launched last week under http://www.maryoregan.ie
Can you please advise me how I go about removing the first Holding Site please?
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.

Hi there,
We recommend you not to delete the site as deleting a WordPress.com site will remove it permanently and you may not be able to re-use its WordPress.com address in future. However, if you still wish to delete it, refer this link.
Instead of removing the site, you may also empty it. Refer this link.
Moreover, you may hide your site using the privacy settings. Refer this link for more details.
Hope this helps! :)

Thank you. That email is very clear. I will follow up once I have considered the options. Kind regards. Mary

Hi. I followed your instructions and deleted the site that was out of date, but it now appears that an ‘about’ page still comes up in Google searches, with the url https://maryoregancounselling.wordpress.com
When I log in to WordPress.com, and look for this site, I read that there is no site listed to me currently.
I’d appreciate your help on this please, so that I can delete all obsolete pages.
Thank you. -
Hi there,
Deleting a page content or deleting blogs does not remove any indexed content from the search engine page results.
Google and Bing only clear their caches of deleted indexed content that produces a 404 (page not found) between 2 – 6 months. Sometimes it can take a fairly long time, depending on how frequent the Googlebot currently crawls the page.
To completely remove an entire page from Google search results refer to https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1663419?hl=en
You’ll need to wait for Google to update its records, keep in mind that there are many many search engines out there.
So in addition, just create another blog and create a minimum of six posts, to knock that one right off the front page of Google.
Give or take, within six months it will be removed entirely.
You can learn more here https://en.support.wordpress.com/search-engines/
Next time you may hide your site by setting the site to Private before deleting
