Remove blog from my account to an account of its own?

  • Unknown's avatar

I recently added a blog (hillaryiceaxe.wordpress.com) to my account (kittywillscratch.com) and now realise it should have its own account. Oh, and it will be a website and not a blog. Is it possible to remove it from my account and to set it up on its own with the same name – hillaryiceaxe.com?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The reason I want to move this blog is that I don’t want my name or email address to be associated with it – this will be a business website with its own contact details etc.

    Many thanks,
    Paisley

    Hi Paisley,

Sure thing! The first thing you’ll need to do is create a new WordPress.com account to use with that blog. You can log out of WordPress.com and visit https://wordpress.com/start/account/user to create that new account.

Then, you can log back in to your account paisleypatten and follow the steps in the guide to Transferring a Site to Another WordPress.com Account. That way you can transfer the blog to your new account, so it’s separate from your existing account.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Thank you so much, all is well with the transfer :-)

    Hi Rachel,
Sorry, I’m having more problems. I’ve tried to solve this one myself but I’m not sure where I went wrong therefore finding the fix that works is proving elusive. Here we go …

We already owned the domain hillaryiceaxe.com so after I separated hillaryiceaxe from my own account, I arranged to have the domain transferred to WP. That’s when I discovered my husband started a blog in July this year with the same name although he hadn’t started using it. I thought the two must have been amalgamated while transferring from my blog and paying for the WP hosting of the domain. However, I now see
    1. hillaryiceaxedotcom.wordpress.com and
    2. hillaryiceaxe.com. I can enter the site using either address, but the icon (in the address bar) is a sheet of paper, and when I click it a window appears showing
Your connection to this site is not private and
The identity of this website has not been verified and
Your connection to hillaryiceaxe.com is not encrypted .

Clearly I’ve stuffed up somewhere. Can this be fixed? I’m in your hands dear Rachel :-)

Just to clarify… Paisley Patten (me) is Kitty Will Scratch. Ajay55 (other half) is Hillary Ice Axe, but I’m (not doing a very good job of) setting it up.

    Cheers

I just want to be clear I have this right before I make any changes, or make any suggestions. Can you tell me which domains and sites you are trying to move to a different account? And which domain (example.com) should be mapped to which site (example.wordpress.com)?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Thanks Chris,

I wanted to remove the Hillary Ice Axe blog from the Kitty Will Scratch blog. I seem to have managed that as it no longer appears on Kitty Will Scratch. I would now like Hillaryiceaxe.wordpress.com (which shows up as Hillaryiceaxedotcom.wordpress.com) to be mapped to Hillaryiceaxe.com , as in I would like Hillaryiceaxe.com to be the useable site and the one which everyone will see when they search/enter/etc.

I hope you are able to sort my gaffs. Sorry for the mess I’ve left you to fix.

    Cheers
    Paisley

Oh my hairy aunt, I’ve got it backwards. The domain: hillaryiceaxe.com should be mapped to the site: hillaryiceaxe.wordpress.com

    Cheers

    No worries. :)

I’ve cancelled and refunded the incorrect domain mapping for you. You are all set to map your domain name — hillaryiceaxe.com — to hillaryiceaxe.wordpress.com here:

    https://hillaryiceaxe.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains

Hmmm, I’m beginning to think I’m jinxed or maybe really thick. Below is the message that showed when I clicked the link you provided above. This same message appeared whether I was logged in as ajay55 or as Paisley Patten.

User ajay55 Cannot Access the Dashboard Requested

You are logged in as “ajay55” and do not have the necessary privileges to access the dashboard for “Hillary Ice Axe”. If you are not “ajay55”, please log out, and log back in with your username. If you are “ajay55” and you need access, please ask an administrator of the site to invite you.

If you reached this screen by accident and meant to visit one your own sites, here are some shortcuts to help you find your way.

I’m so hoping you can help. Many thanks in advance

    @paisleypatten:

I’ve sent you an email, using the email address that’s on file for that blog. Please check all your email accounts, and ask Ajay to do the same. That’ll be the fastest way to sort this out. :)

    @paisleypatten:

hillaryiceaxe.wordpress.com is owned by a different person, it seems.

You’ll want to map your domain to hillaryiceaxedotcom.wordpress.com, which you do own, instead:
    https://hillaryiceaxedotcom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains

“hillaryiceaxedotcom” won’t appear prominently in public. It’s just the underlying URL that’ll be hidden with Hillaryiceaxe.com

  • Unknown's avatar

That seems to have sorted it all Chris. *sighs with relief* I can now get on with getting on with it.

Thank you SO much for all your help.
    Cheers
    Paisley

Just to put the final full stop on the saga… the ‘different person’ you mentioned in your previous message is a friend (hi Kev) who was helping out some time ago but became too snowed under to continue. If only I’d thought to speak to him before I took over :^/.
    You’ve been great @chrisrudski and @rachelmcr.
    Hugs.

    You’re very welcome, Paisley. :)
