Hi
can you tell me how to get rid of the comments section of this blog thanks or at least to disable. I looked for the described checkbox to disallow in discussion and could not find it at all… also I unchecked comments on screen options in edit and it is still there and functional.
please advise thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

All WordPress blogs by default have comments open on all Pages and Posts. You can enable and disable comments on free hosted WordPress.com blogs on this page > Settings > Discussion
Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/You can override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.

You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules

timethief…I am just focused on doing this now which I have tried to do:
“Enable/Disable Comments
To change the comment settings for a page you already published, first locate the post/page you want to edit on the Posts or Pages page on your WordPress.com site’s dashboard and click on its title.
Then, locate the Discussion module on the edit screen, and either check or uncheck the options it offers:”
However I cannot find “Discussion module” on the edit screen of my post, or anywhere else in fact, where I have the choice to turn these two thins off:
Allow Comments
Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on the pagethis is exactly what I am looking for, so where is it?
I can’t find it in settings/discussion or anywhere in edit mode.
please advise specifically on this point and not give a lot of other links thanks so much.

I’m sorry but I know what I posted above is correct and I really don’t know how to help you beyond what I posted above.

I am having the exact same issue…and you are correct, the instructions to fix state to use the discussion box to uncheck the allow comments feature, but this discussion module is nowhere to be found. :(

Dashboard->Settings->Discussion to disable comments on future posts. On individual posts, click to Edit and the Discussion Module is below the main post box. Just scroll down. And note that you have to be at least an Editor, not just an Author, to do it.

Well that is a very poor procedure imo… this instruction: “When you click on Screen Options, it will drop down an area with a list of the different things in the dashboard you can show or hide. Uncheck a box to hide something and check it again to show it.” would not have occurred to me as something actually being referred to as something that would happen on the edit page! or that it would open up those two options right down the bottom of the edit page!!
thank you anyway bob, I have done it now.
