remove comments box
-
Hi –
New to CSS and am trying to remove the comments box. I was thinking that I identify the CSS code dealing with comment boxes and try to hide it somehow?
Any suggestions?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Are you aware that you can disable comments on posts and pages and then no comments box will appear? That does not require CSS editing. In case that’s what you want to do … this page > Settings > Discussion
Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.
We can also overide the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any post or page. -
Any existing pages or posts created before the change at settings > discussion will have to have their comments turned off manually. The easiest way to do this is using the bulk edit feature at posts > all posts and pages > all pages.

Thanks Everyone, yes I see the setting now. I had some new and old pages so I’ll need to use both techniques.
So I take it I can remove the Recent Posts, Archive, meta etc using the settings function? Do you know what sub category that item is in?

The stuff in the sidebar are widgets. What you see in the sidebar when you first start out, or before you have actually added any widgets is a sample set displayed by the theme itself.
Go to appearance > widgets and add in the widgets you wish to display in the sidebar and the sample set will disappear.

Thanks for the help thesacredpath.
As an aside I have noticed that there are some sites that sell wordpress templates or themes like http://graphpaperpress.com/.
How exactly do you use those templates in wordpress, does it retain the same functionality as the one I got from wordpress.com? A little confuse at how that works exactly.

You cannot build or use your own custom theme built from scratch at WordPress.com. You cannot use templates from any other themes. The only themes we can use are those found here > Appearance > Themes
This is a multiuser blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme are using the same underlying template and we cannot access the underlying files and edit templates or themes. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/
The custom design upgrade will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but will not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. It does not allow you to remove footer links to the theme designer or to WordPress.com. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes at WordPress.COM. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-css/

You are limited to the almost 150 themes you see in your Dashboard – you can’t upload an outside Theme at WordPress.COM – it is a security and reliability and functionality issue – the Themes here are highly modified to give you lots of extra functions built in.

So are you able to copy and paste on wordpress.org? The site ( wordpress.org) seems to be down or acting strangely…

It’s working fine for me. You can copy and paste from the OP in this thread into a new thread on this forum http://wordpress.org/support/forum/themes-and-templates
