Remove dates from address bar posts

  • Unknown's avatar

I want to change all of my blog posts to stop showing the date in the address bar, before the title:
    I.E. https://ppstaking.com/2017/03/23/professional-poker-staking/
    in to
    https://ppstaking.com/professional-poker-staking/
The permalink on the post only allows change AFTER the date.

Is there some CSS code I can use to do this.
    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi ppstaking,
To do this you will need to use a plugin. In order to use plugins you must first purchase a Business Plan. If you already have one I have written these directions using the “Custom Permalinks” plugin by Michael Tyson.

    1. Go to My Sites -> Plugins -> Add
    2. Search for “permalink”.
    3. Locate “Custom Permalinks” by Michael Tyson and install it.
    4. Now to to https://ppstaking.com/wp-admin
    5. Go to Posts.
    6. Find the post you want to edit and click on edit.
    7. Underneath the Title field you will now see an extra field called Permalink. You can edit this to whatever you want.

In this case it should say: https://ppstaking.com/2017/03/23/professional-poker-staking/

    You can change it to:
    https://ppstaking.com/professional-poker-staking/.

    8. Now click on Update and your permalink should be changed.

There is definitely no way to do this without plugins?

  • I’ve already answered you in this thread: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/removing-date-from-address-bar-permalink-for-posts

Please don’t start new threads asking the same question. This is not possible on WordPress.com unless you have the Business Plan.

@lastfarthing a plugin is not necessary to change permalink structure on a WordPress site, as that’s a core WordPress feature. But on WordPress.com that feature is only available to Business Plan sites.

Apologies for spamming. It won’t happen again, now I’ve learnt how to see my last posts.

It seems like quite a big flaw to not be able to completely change the permalink. I do wonder if wordpress does these kind of things to encourage upgrades to business.

For any one else who stumbles upon this, wanting the same thing without wanting to upgrade to business: don’t use blogs, use pages. Any themes with a front page of blogs can I imagine have the blog links changed to page links, using CSS.

  • It has never been possible to change permalink structure on WordPress.com. The ability for Business Plans to change it was added only two months ago, along with the ability to use plugins and custom themes.

    don’t use blogs, use pages

Just keep in mind that pages don’t appear in your site’s feed, so they can’t be followed. Subscribers to your site won’t get notifications when a new page is published. Search engines also tend to rank dynamic content, i.e. posts, higher than static content, i.e. pages, as with posts there is the assumption that the content is more recent and therefore most relevant.

Any themes with a front page of blogs can I imagine have the blog links changed to page links, using CSS.

You can’t do this with CSS. Whether the front page shows posts or pages depends on how the theme is programmed. CSS only controls how the site looks. It doesn’t change how the underlying software works.

So, how do you remove the dates??

  • @onthedeckproductions

It is not possible to remove the date from the post permalinks unless you have the Business Plan.

If you have a Business Plan, please start a live chat with us and we can help you with it there:

If you need help removing the date from a different area on your site, please start a new thread and include a link to the site you need help with.

As the original poster hasn’t commented here in over a month I’m closing this thread.
