Remove dates from url
-
Hello, by default a WordPress.com blog url will be in the format of
/YYYY/MM/DD/title-of-the-blogI would like
/title-of-the-blogWhere is this setting?
-
Sorry because the nature of WP.com being a multi blogging community structure the option to format your link in the above example is not possible.
-
Check out Pages. Go to Dashboard -> Pages (e.g. your About page).
These aren’t posts, per se, but they get you the URL format you’re after. I’ve seen them used as main landing pages for a topic, product, etc.
I’m not sure if/how they ever get found except by search engines, unless you link to them yourself. (i.e., they don’t show up in your archives list)

Since pages have been suggested here, I’ll post a few drawbacks to pages.
Drawbacks to using pages for your main content:
1. Pages will show up lower in search engine results because search engines place lower emphasis on pages. Pages are meant for static content.
2. When you publish a post, wordpress automatically “pings” all the major search engines to let them know you have published a new post so that they can index it. When you publish a page, wordpress does not “ping” the search engines. You will have to ping manually at a service such as pingomatic.com.
3. Only posts show up on an RSS feed, pages do not.
4. You can assign categories and tags to posts to help the search engines properly place you in search results. Pages cannot have tags or categories as they sit outside the blog structure.

I should add here for future reference that anyone going with pages only needs to go through the google webmaster tools verification process because of #2 above. I would also suggest going through the same process with Bing as well.
