Remove default widgets from my sidebar
-
I am using the Oxygen Theme, and there are some default widgets still appearing on my sidebar on the right of the page. In the back end they are not activated. So, I can’t figure out how to remove it on the front end if I don’t see the problem on the back end.

Please change the page template to Full Width Page and see if you like the result.
Please be aware that the Full Width page template removes all the widgets and makes your pages wide.

I don’t want to remove all the widgets. Just the ones on the right side. Plus I’m using the template that allows the featured images on the front page in a slider. I don’t want to lose that feature.

@ ayarros,
There are only two sidebar widget areas among the several widget areas of the Oxygen theme. On some themes default widgets display until you replace them with other widgets, even when no widgets appear in the area where they are hiding invisibly by default. If you want no widgets to appear in that area, then the thing to do is, once you find the correct area where those widgets reside (or are hiding invisibly) activate an empty text widget in that area, or any type of widget which will have no content or title and therefore will not display. -
And remove from the primary or secondary widget areas any widgets visible in those areas that you don’t want to display.

Can you explain step-by-step how to remove Secondary Sidebar at all? In the settings menu this secondary sidebar is empty and there are no widgets at all. Unfortunately META and SEARCH widgets are active in my site. I’ve tried to put EMPTY text widget (as you suggested) in secondary sidebar menu and those widgets dissapeared. But… All my blogs/entries are still narrow, because that secondary sidebar window is still active even without showing anything. How to expand main text entry area with removing secondary sidebar menu at all? -

Removing widgets from sidebar areas does not automatically widen post or page content areas. Modifications such as removing widget areas, and increasing post/page content width, would require CSS customization. Sorry, that’s out of my realm of knowledge.

Just to throw in some info musicdoc just shared on another thread (@musicdoc-thanks !) in some themes –specifically mine which is Expound and maybe others–removing the sidebar does widen the post/page content width. Just in case it’s worth switching themes for…
