Remove domain mapping
-
Hi,
I previously had a domain name (teamfrankrealestate.com) registered with GoDaddy, but was told I could delete it and then register it with WordPress. However, it was already mapped to WordPress upon deleting it. It no longer exists on GoDaddy, but WordPress still recognizes it as a mapped domain and I’m getting messages to configure the DNS as well. I would like to use teamfrankrealestate.com as my primary domain registered with WordPress only. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,

Whoever told you that gave you terrible advice. You should only ever cancel a domain if you don’t want to use it at all any more.
Cancelled domains are not released immediately at any registrar, but go through a long process similar to domain expiration before the domain can be registered anywhere else, and domain providers even have the option to sell a domain at private auction during this process.
You won’t be able to register that domain on WordPress.com until GoDaddy completely releases it. Based on the Whois info it appears that domain was cancelled yesterday, which means it can be up to three months or longer before that will happen.
If you still want to use that domain your only option is to contact GoDaddy as soon as possible to reverse the cancellation before the domain goes into Redemption with them, as it becomes much harder to get the domain back once it enters that state. Then you can continue mapping the domain to your WordPress.com site.
We don’t currently support incoming domain transfers, so for now mapping is the only way to connect that domain to your WordPress.com site.
