remove edit section on pages

I’m new to wordpress and adding content to the pages but see an edit section bar on the left of each section. Even when I go into preview it appears. How do I get rid of this or see the site without the edit bar?

Hi @laniesmith1,
The only way you can view your posts and pages without seeing the edit link is to logout of your account and view your site then.
The edit link will display on all your posts and pages while you are logged in. Also note that only you can see this link.

Thank you! I have another WordPress sit that allows me to view while still logged in but its hosted by a company so I appreciated Kate the help.

Also, there is still a long section on the left that is blank despite ‘edition’ disappearing. Is this because its a free site right now or a design function?

Yes, with self-hosted WordPress sites, there is an option to easily disable the edit links on your site. Unfortunately, with WordPress.com hosted sites this isn’t possible.

That’s absolutely correct. The theme you’re using is currently Twenty Seventeen.
The theme defaults to the two-column layout, which displays the page title in one column and the page content in the other.

You can manage this in Customizer → Theme Options → Page Layout

That was so helpful…thank you! I haven’t transferred my new domain yet so I have the unpaid plan. Would I have more ability to change things on the Twenty Seventeen with a paid plan? For example, I’d like to change the font of the tagline and site title and remove the words ‘home’, ‘about’, etc. from the actual page. Is there another template you can recommend that would be easier to use in these ways?

Yes, you would. Specifically with a WordPress.com Premium or Business Plan, you would have access to Custom CSS, which would allow you much more freedom for customization.

In regards to fonts, users are only able to choose from the curated list WordPress.com provides. However, with a WordPress.com Business Plan, users would be able to add and use more fonts via a plugin.

For this, there is a simple (yet kind of unorthodox way, in my opinion) to remove the titles of a page.
From your Dashboard you would go to Site Pages, then click on the page you would like to edit, for example ‘Home’. From there, simply delete the ‘Home’ from the title bar and hit Update.
This particular method has worked for me when working with Twenty Seventeen as a kind of workaround. If done correctly, you’ll find that the name of your ‘Home’ page on Site Pages will now be displayed as (no title). You’ll just need to be careful when creating custom menus that have links to these pages since they don’t have titles any more, instead those titles will be replaced with numbers.

Without Custom CSS, I’d say most themes are pretty set with their design and customization options. You could try to browse the theme directory and see if you can find what you want by filtering your search. When you click in the search bar, you’ll be presented to search by Feature, Layout, Column, etc.:
