We cannot provide answers without a link to the blog, starting with http. We need to see it first.

That’s part of the theme’s design. You can hide it or change it’s colour with the custom CSS upgrade, provided you’re willing to learn a little CSS (you can experiment and preview before you buy). Or you could choose a different theme.
CSS like this will probably work:
div.post_meta { display:none; }or
div.post_meta { background-color: #fff; }but you’ll need to experiment to get it just right.

Are you talking about the grey block around “filed under” and “comments” or the one below that?

Ah, I didn’t notice the second grey block. That’s the navigation box – it will make more sense when you have more than one post. Please disregard the CSS advice above if that’s the one you’re referring to.

thank you, but i do have the css upgrade and have made other changes – i just can’t get rid of the empty grey box
-
As tellyworth says, that is the “navigation box. You might want to add another post so that you can see how it relates to things before just removing it.
-
thanks, just did that and there’s nothing displaying in that grey area. i’m thinking it’s just a border of some sort?

It separates the posts. Without it, the posts might tend to just run together. I have a friend that has no separator between posts and all the posts just run together. How about making it white like the background instead of doing a display none? That would give you some white space between posts.
