Remove image when sharing site links
-
I would like to remove the image that’s shown when I share my WordPress site or links to my blog posts on social media. The information about changing this feature in the Media Settings is no longer valid, as the ‘Don’t use a featured image’ button is not available. Please help, as I am not able to upgrade to a creator plan in order to install plug-ins to fix this one, tiny problem.

Depending on the social network, the image that will be used when your links are shared will be determined by a specific order. Facebook will typically follow this order:
- The featured image of the post or page.
- Other images found in the content, in the following order:
An image from a slideshow.
An image from a gallery.
Any other image on the site.
An external image linked from elsewhere.
Your profile photo. - Other images found on the page, such as an image from the header, footer, or sidebar.

If you want to have control over which image is being shown, you can set a featured image on your posts:

If you prefer not to show any thumbnail images, Facebook and LinkedIn appear to have a “x” symbol on the thumbnail that you can click to remove the preview, as shown on the screenshots in this section of our support guide:
