remove menu option from manifest theme

I would like to remove the menu option from my manifest theme, if it is possible. I would prefer that the space between my blog title and header image not be broken up by the menu (which currently is displaying my page options). I thought that by moving my pages down to the left widget area I would automatically lose them at the top of the page, but that didn’t happen. I do not have anything selected—I think that “pages” may be the default menu?

I am definitely a novice at any kind of customization–so my vocabulary might be all mixed up. Apologies if I have made this more confusing than it ought to be!

If you want a custom list of pages on your sidebar and no page tabs under the header. If so, go to Appearance >Menus, create a menu, name it “Blank” or something like that, and then add nothing to it, click Save Menu, select it from the pulldown in the Theme Locations module, click Save; then create another menu, name it “Sidebar menu” or something like that, select the pages you want from the Pages module, click Add to Menu, click Save Menu; then go to Appearance>Widgets, add a Custom Menu widget to your sidebar, select Sidebar Menu from the pulldown, save.

Thank you, timethief!! Worked right away and I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me at all–but thanks so much!!
