Remove Meta Widget

  • Unknown's avatar

The Twenty Ten theme came with the Meta Widget. I would like to remove it but I can’t figure out how to do that. I am very new to wordpress and could really use some help with this one item so far.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

This is super simple, so no worries. You are talking about the meta info on your right sidebar?

When you’re logged into WP Admin, click on Appearance (left sidebar, a ways down the page) and then Widgets.

When you get to the Widgets page, look on the right side for your ‘Right Sidebar’. You’ll see the ‘meta’ widget located there.

Just click the little down arrow, which opens up that widget. You’ll see the word ‘Delete’ at the bottom; click that, and voila! That section is removed from the sidebar.

Check out the other widgets that you can add (over on the left) in case there are things you want in your sidebar that are not currently there.

Here’s a bit more info about widgets and how to access them:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/

And here’s a bit more info about widgets and sidebars:

    Hope that helps! Good luck!

The widget is missing from view on the right side. I click on the help icon and see this message under missing widgets: Many themes show some sidebar widgets by default until you edit your sidebars, but they are not automatically displayed in your sidebar management tool. After you make your first widget change, you can re-add the default widgets by adding them from the Available Widgets area.

I added a widget successfully and can see how it can be edited, removed and re-added but the Meta Widget is not available to delete because I can see it.

Unless there is a bug, and there is not one because I just did this on my test blog using that theme, regardless of theme, all widgets on all WordPress.COM hosted blogs can be installed and uninstalled here Dashboard → Appearance → Widgets

Go to http://hearingwellclub.wordpress.com//wp-admin/widgets.php and click the Edit link on the meta widget. When it open up click the Delete link.

Widgets have visibility settings. If your remove a widget and still see it only on one or some pages check the visibility setting.

Lastly, if you remove a widget completely and then view the blog and still see it that means you are viewing a cached copy held in your browser so you need to clear your browser cache.

I found a way to remove the widget. I added a widget for the same space and then deleted it and at the same time the default widgets were all deleted. There were three widgets that came with the twenty ten theme. Search, recent posts and Meta. They were all gone. I added back Sear and Recent posts and all is well. Thanks for your thoughtful answers.
