Remove mobile version

  • Unknown's avatar

I need help. I want to remove the mobile version of my site because it looks broken on the phone. Links and stuff like that don’t seem to work. I want my blog to only use the desktop version, but I have no idea how to do that. I see no option for it anywhere. Maybe you at WordPress can disable it?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Come on, been at this for a year now. There must be a way. I guess it’s AMP still? Do you have to go up a level in payment just to disable this thing? I just don’t want my site to default to that god awful mobile site when you enter my site on the phone. Please help to disable this, or I might have to change provider, sorry to say. It looks terrible and probably drives people away visiting the site on their phone. Why is the mobile site even a thing, don’t remember asking for it.

  • Hi there, I noticed that the Premium Plan on tomsgaming.com expired recently. Is it possible that the error you are seeing is due to the fact that custom CSS is not loading on your site currently? I see you have added custom CSS to the site but it does not work without an active subscription to Premium. See: https://wordpress.com/plans/my-plan/tomsgaming.com

If you renew your plan, your CSS should begin to function again as expected, thanks!

No, it happened way before. I have another thread about it, made it about a year ago. But were never provided a solution. Just tired of my site being broken on mobile. I don’t know if it’s the theme, some option (like I had access to AMP before, but no longer for some reason), WordPress, or Google.

  • Perhaps I’m not understanding what you are seeing. When I visit your site on mobile it appears like the desktop site to me. Can you share a screenshot of the view you have? How are you getting to that view? From your site homepage? Or from a link you find in Google Search?

I can confirm that AMP is not active on your site, so it sounds like this may be related to something else. Thanks for the additional info!

Yeah, I understand you are confused. I have been fighting against this thing for a year, but now suddenly it seems to have fixed itself. Praise the lord, it’s a miracle. Weird timing, but I’ll take it.

The problem was that the site switches to the mobile site at random, with broken links, etc. Anyway, thanks for your help!

  • One thing to consider is that your site is using a very old theme (it’s retired) and while we don’t force site owners to switch away from older themes, it can be the case that as time goes on they will have issues like this. The problem with older themes like this is that the code is so out-dated we’re not really able to fix issues once it’s retired like this.

With this in mind you may want to consider updating to one of our newer themes here, which are designed to take advantage of all the tools WordPress.com offers currently.
