I deleted my blog, but I do not want the account at all anymore, and I can’t seem to get rid of it! Just wanting a full deactivation so I can use the email and associate it with my other blog account :(

    Hi there,
Username accounts are not deleted but there are steps you can take that amount to removing all personal information and result in leaving only a throwaway email address behind.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/

    1. You can go to My Account->Edit Profile and remove all data except the account name and an email address. Create a throwaway email address and change the account email to that throwaway address. This only leaves the username behind.

    2. To unsubscribe from email sent to you from WordPress.com, go here and click on “Block all subscription emails from WordPress.com”:
    http://wordpress.com/#!/following/subsettings/

    3. To ensure the account is locked up tightly, visit this site, generate a password of 15-20 characters, and change the account password to it:
    http://www.thebitmill.com/tools/password.html

    4. While you cannot completely delete your Gravatar profile, you can remove all of your profile information easily through the “Edit My Profile” page here:
    http://en.gravatar.com/profiles/edit/?noclose#about-you

You can also hide your Gravatar profile from external access. Visit your profile page (click your name in the top navigation of the website), then click the “Hide My Profile” link in the bottom, right-hand corner.

This is a peer support forum where Volunteers and Staff work cooperatively to deliver WordPress.com support. Volunteers answer most questions and Staff monitor. When Volunteers cannot provide the required support we flag threads for Staff attention.

Ok, thanks, I’d like to lodge a complaint with the Staff. It’s not good to not allow people to delete their profiles, to make us jump through hoops to remove our personal information, and at the very least, there should be a simple pop up or disclaimer letting the user know. However, that’s probably why it’s deeply hidden in the terms of usage because no one will read it and then people will use it. Otherwise, people wouldn’t sign up.

Could you flag this and let staff know please?

Tagged fir Staff. You can subscribe to this thread and when Staff respond you will be notified. Keep in mind the fact that it’s the weekend and there are many waiting who posted before you did.

[opinion] It’s my opinion that following directions I provided and will take less time and energy by far than waiting to complain only to find that you still have to use those instructions anyway. [/opinion]

I’m sure I will still have to follow the steps, however, it doesn’t mean I can’t let them know that it’s a complaint that I’m sure I’m not the first to have. If they don’t want to better the site, that’s fine, but as a user who enjoys it, I feel it is something worth mentioning. It is not just ‘waiting to complain’ it is just simply lodging a complaint, that they can take and look into improving, or not. I would have expected any thoughts on improvement to be welcomed.

    Of course you can complain.

    Hi there,

I can help you with this, sure. I’m going to move this into a support ticket because I’ll need to get your email address and we’ll want to keep that private.

One of the reasons we make it “hard” to delete an account is that we don’t want users who have poured a lot of time into their blog to accidentally delete their account and have no way to retrieve it. We’ve found that our users who are determined to delete will be able to, but we are able to help protect our other users from accidental deletion better this way.

You’ll receive an email with the subject line the topic of this thread. I will close this thread, too, and we’ll finish up on email.

    Cheers!
