remove next /previous link on post page in theme "Twenty Twelve"

  • Unknown's avatar

    I have just started to move to an own site/blog after extensive use of LinkedIN, which now became a bit to inflexible for what I am trying to do.

    I have chosen the Twenty Twelve theme and subscribed to WordPress.com PREMIUM plan to be able to edit CSS commands.

    I want to show posts without the <next post> <previous post> links on the bottom. Since those links show all posts in chronological order, it gets very confusing, when I want to only show news about a certain company shown on my site (see My Portfolio – click on Logo – click on news about ….).

    I looked around in the forum and picked the hint to add

    .post-navigation {
    display: none;
    }

    Unfortunately this did not do the job. The prev and next links still show up.

    Even better than entirely removing those links would be to restrict/filter the previous/next links to posts within one category. I have seen the php commands but I guess this cant be done with CSS editing in the WordPress.com Customizer…

    Please accept my apology for this basic question. I am trying to get up to speed,but have my real job too.. :)

    Hello Alexander,

    I’d be happy to help! I can’t seem to find an example of where the next and previous links are shown on your site, would you mind linking me to an exact page where it happens?

    Thanks,
    Sage

    Hello Sage,

    glad that you are trying to help me out on this.

    Here is the link: https://saas-mentor.com/2015/12/05/new-solutions-for-supply-chain-risk-management/

    You can get there like this: 1. lick on . 2. Click on the Image/Logo . 3. Click on the “news about .. link” on the right side under . (The link’s name is >> 2/02/2015 – New Solutions for Supply Risk Management: A Case Study.

    The problem is, that viewers would like to see previous news about riskmethods or next news about riskmethods but certainly they are (at that moment) not interested in the chronologically next or previous post. If I could change the “next/previous” link behavior to next/previous in category, then this would be fine. I would then give all “news posts of riskmethods” a unique category and the next/previous link would be helpful…

    Curious what you can find out. So much appreciated! Alexander

    Hi Alexander,

    The previous and next links look to me like they’re appearing on the page but still can’t be seen which is a little odd. Dropping this code into your custom CSS area should do the trick of hiding them completely either way:

    .site-content .nav-single {
    	display: none;
    }

    Without access to the theme files (which isn’t available on WordPress.com sites) it isn’t possible to change those links so they just go to the previous/next of the category. One thing you could do is place a link or two at the bottom of your posts? A kind of “Enjoy reading? Check out our post on __” type thing.

    Hope that helps,
    Sage
