Remove old administrator or make new site from scratch?

    Hi,

I’ve been hired to take over from someone’s old web manager, and she wants the site completely out of his control (he is aware of this and has facilitated the transfer of power to some extent, but I’m also leery of asking him too many questions given the bad blood between him and my client).

The problem is, since he created the site initially, I’m not sure how to go about either transferring ownership of the site or migrating it. (I did tell the client that this was potentially out of my depth, but she didn’t believe me.) Since he created the site through WordPress and PageLines, I’m assuming I can’t remove him as Administrator, since the payment etc is connected at least partly to his accounts (at the very least his PageLines).

So if I want to just move all the content to a new site:
    1. Right now the domain name is on EasyDNS. Does EasyDNS only offer domain names and no hosting? That’s the impression I’m getting but I don’t want to purchase new hosting for her new site if that’s not necessary.
    2. If I get new hosting for the website, will I be able to manage it through this WordPress account, which I created to upgrade my own website? How do you add a second site to a WordPress.org account?

Sorry if these questions are deeply stupid. I’ve got about 30 tabs open right now after falling through several Google black holes and I figured I might as well ask in case there are really simple answers that I’m just not Googling well enough to find.

    Thanks

Since he created the site through WordPress and PageLines

The bottom line is that the person with the username account that registered the site owns it and no one can deprived him or here of ownership or control That person’s cooperation for transferring the site to another owner is required. And that is why I never ever allow anyone to register my sites under their accounts.

That sounds like a wordpress.ORG install to me.

Note that about 30% of those who post here daily are posting to wrong support forum and the answers to wordpress.COM and WordPress.ORG support questions are not the same.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

This is wordpress.COM support. We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
    (1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
    (2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM.
    (3) sites linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites wordpress.com account page.
