Remove page from Google
-
Does anyone know how to stop Google from crawling my page? They have page after page of techie gobbly-guk I cannot understand.

If you go to Dashboard > Options > Privacy you can set it to block search engines but allow normal visitors. If you do that then Google should stop listing you after they make their next crawl. It’s not always 100% effective, particularly if you get lots of people linking to you, but it’s about the best you can do with a WordPress.com blog, unless you’re happy making the whole blog private. Hope that helps.

If you want to remove posts which are already cached by google you can do it by using the google webmaster tools.

I tried the google webmaster, but it’s way over my non-techie head, and after pages of it, I had to give up.
I’m trying the first option and pray it works. How often does google do ‘crawl’?

I see the info is still there. Would it help If I password protect my site a week or so??

Hey, I searched for my first and last name on google for fun as usual, but found that my wordpress (the personal secret kind) was the fifth result! My name isn’t even in my account info, and the only thing remotely containing my name is my email (as all one word of course).
Not only am I simply baffled about how google makes a connection with my name and this wordpress under a new alias, but I read this post and after checking preferences I found that I ALREADY set my privacy to block search engines. Not necessarily mad here, because I protected the most personal of posts… but (out of curiosity) how did this happen? and more importantly, what can I do to be truly secret from google?

I can tell you how this usually happens, ie every single time it’s happened in the last two years that I’ve been here:
Your friends tell Google. Your friends, in a chat or a forum post or a MySpace or Facebook page connect that blog with your name. At this point, you cannot be truly secret from Google because the news is out there. Try doing as isadora says and using Google webmaster tools to delete the record.
