Remove partial comment

Recently, I left a comment on the article…

Ryan Reynolds Responds To ‘Deadpool 2’ Casting News: Josh Brolin As Cable – Update

If you look, it appears as though I left 2 comments responding to the same individual one (both currently awaiting moderation). Only one is completed, b/c the other was left b/c I mistakenly typed a ‘shortcut’ or something that caused it to post.

    Please remove the partial one.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Unfortunately, you can’t delete your comment which you left already. Only the site owner can edit and manage the comments left on the site.

Please the following quotation from the support page of WordPress.com.

It is not possible to edit or delete any comments you have left on other WordPress.com blogs. Blog owners are in full control of the comments on their blogs, so you can try contacting the blog owner and ask them to edit or delete a comment for you. If the blog owner has not posted any contact information, you can try leaving a short comment asking how to contact them directly.

    Thanks!

That would be fine, except it is a Deadline story (not a blog) the comment is/was on.

I thought I was contacting WordPress help (& they were at least part owners of the news site) & not other users.

  • Here is the support forum of WordPress.com. Of course, staffs are very active here, and also many forum volunteers are willing to help.

Next time, please add the tag of “modlook” when you want staffs to answer and take care of your question. But please be aware that most questions can be solved even by the volunteers.

    Thanks :)

    Thanks.

However, my original issue was with a Deadline story, not the blog URL-ed in my comment here.

Yes, I know it. In the initial answer, I already referred to http://deadline.com(a Deadline story). deadline.com is WordPress.com site, so you can’t delete your comment by yourself which you left already. Only the site owner can edit and manage the comments. If you want the comment to be removed, you need to contact the site owner.

  • Alternatively, you can also leave a comment asking the owner to remove the comment which you want to remove.

Yeah, but as I wrote before, I thought WP was the owners of the site with many articles (including that one) on it.

Also, this site & many like it send me E-mails regarding new comments that I then find I can’t reply to when I take the link, leaving me to think leaving such a message would likely get it confused for a comment.

The site deadline.com is hosted by WordPress.com VIP, but WordPressdotcom does not own that site.

As @hacchism said here, https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/remove-partial-comment?replies=8#post-2919840 you will need to contact the site owner to ask them remove the comment you made.

I’m racking my brain right now, trying to come up with that quote (from some film or TV show) from one character to another, saying they should be given a prize/medal/something for being “wrong all the time”…

Anyway, regardless, the reason for that is b/c that is what is happening here. When I first noticed the other had mistakenly semi-posted (not finalized, as “awaiting moderation”, but that seeming to be a waste of everyone’s time, as it wasn’t something that ever should have started towards posting), I went into WP & my account, clicking “Help” & a bunch of other things to get help in undoing it.

I thought I was contacting the owner when I posted (apparently) the thing @ 7PM (or a reasonable facsimile… as I posted before, I never posted a mention of my own blog, which I have not even looked at in perhaps a year plus).

  • Hi there,

As both volunteers in this thread have already told you, you cannot remove or otherwise edit a comment left on a WordPress.com site. We can also not remove it for you under any circumstances.

Comments are under the control of the owners of respective sites, and ONLY site owners have the ability to remove comments posted on their sites. The only way to remove the comment is to contact the site owner and to ask them to remove it. It will be their choice whether they comply with your request or not.

@tjchurch2001 – Thanks for posting how you arrived here. While it may not be the help you wanted, the Support guide is clear on the process for removing a comment you’ve left on someone’s site. If you want to attempt to contact them, you could try leaving an additional comment or write the author of that post, whose email address is listed on their author page at http://deadline.com/author/adalessandro/

If you are subscribed to comments on that post and wish to unsubscribe, there is a link in the email to do so. If you click reply in your email program or the button in the email itself, you will be adding another comment for submission on the post you are subscribed to.

    Good luck and best wishes.

As an aside, this thread might be excellent fodder for your well-named, but sadly untouched blog. “-)

1] Kokk – Thought I was contacting them, & was surprised when I started getting replies to this thread I did not know I had posted in.

2] This is not fodder for my blog (which is not “well-named” as you suggest, but named that way due to a reason that should become well-known worldwide in the future), as that blog is untouched in a long time like many others due to hackers & other issues I have had online in a decade-plus unrelated to this & many other things I have done online.
