remove password protected

The help function on WordPress is not good. I have an old site and put ‘password protected’ on some posts. 1. I do not remember the password. 2. I want to remove ‘password protected’ from the posts.

The ‘help’ says to go to the SETTINGS gear icon at the top of the edit page.

There is no SETTINGS icon anywhere on the edit page.

Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

Hi there, It sounds like the help doc hasn’t yet been updated. Can you share the link to the instructions you followed?

If this is for your site nateandkelly.wordpress.com then you can go to Dashboard>Posts>All Posts and in the list of posts, look for the post title and the words Password Protected.

Then hover your cursor over the post title, click on Quick Edit that appears and remove the password that appears there, then click “Update”. That will immediately make the entire post visible to the Public. If you don’t want that, you have the option of removing the password and also ticking the box next to Private. Again, click on Update. That will only make the post visible to Admins and Editors on the site.

Post back here and let me know if you need more help.
