remove search box on left side

I have clicked on the icon to remove the search box on the left side of the page and it does nothing. I do not want a search bar on the left side. How can I remove it? Thanks

Hi @comfynestblog,
Ascetica was designed to be a three column theme, with sidebars to the left and right of its main content.
When no widgets are placed in the left sidebar, the search box is displayed as a default. There isn’t a built in option to completely remove the left sidebar.
You could replace the search box by navigating to the Widgets panel of the WordPress.com Customizer and adding any widget of your choice to the left sidebar section.
Alternatively, custom CSS could be used to completely hide the left sidebar. (The option of adding custom CSS is included as part of the WordPress.com Premium and Business plans.)
If you don’t wish to upgrade to a plan and are unhappy with the way the left sidebar looks, then you could consider a different theme that has less columns by default. You can filter based on number of columns at the top of our theme repository:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/two-columns/type/free/
Reddle, Toujours, and Lovecraft are examples of minimal, blogging-based themes (like Ascetica) that only have right sidebars.
If you let me know a little about what you’re site’s going to be about and the key features you’re looking for in a theme, I’ll be happy to help with other suggestions too.
