  I need to get rid of the black box surrounding my site title

  Please try the below code under custom CSS & let me know the results:

  .site-branding {
      background: none;
      display: inline-block;
      padding: 1.7em;
  }

  Please check all the pages & blog post on every device to confirm it is not impacting anything else.

  Please use the below code to enlarge the site title:

  .site-title a, .site-title a:visited, .site-description {
  
      font-size: 40px;
  }
