Remove space between header and slideshow

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi, I made the height of the slideshow 130px in the desktop version (to put the arrows below the slideshow) but now some space remains between the header and the slideshow, how can I remove that?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi Marco,

    Add this to your CSS:

    @media screen and (min-width: 896px)
    .entry-content .slideshow-window {
        height: 80px;
    }

    You can adjust the 80px up or down to make the white space larger or smaller as you like.

    Let me know if you need anything else!

  • I just realized that I reset this exactly to what it was before you started. My apologies! I can see why you’re having difficulty – when you adjust the top, the bottom navigation buttons get cut off. Let me play with this when I have more time and see if I can figure it out. Just wanted to apologize before you see this and wonder what I was thinking!

    So sorry about that!

    No problem! Take your time :-)

  • Hey, Marco.

    Sorry it took me so long to get back to you! I wish I would have paid closer attention the first time. Let’s try this again.

    Add this to your CSS:

    .site-content {
        padding-top: 40px !important;
    }

    It should make that white space smaller. Feel free to adjust the 40px to your liking.

    The padding at the top is being driven by something in the source code of the theme or plug-in that you’re using, which is kind of like the royal flush of element assignments. By including the “!important” declaration, you’re telling the browser that in no uncertain terms this is the setting that you’d like to use.

    Sorry again for the confusion. Hope this helps!

    Let me know if you need anything else.

    Perfect, thanks! Will it affect all the pages? If so, how can I make this change only for the home page?

  • Happy to help!

    It will affect all the pages, but since you don’t have any other pages yet, it’s hard to say if it will matter. I see that you set the padding to 10px, making it pretty tight against the menu. Once you have some pages, you can probably find a setting that will work for your site as a whole. You can also adjust the layout of the posts and pages specifically as you did with the slider.

    As a next step, I would suggest that you fill in some content and see what it looks like. If you’d like help with moving things around after you’ve done that, feel free to give me a shout!

    I solved by putting “.home” in front of the code, thank you for the help!

  • You are welcome! If you find this doesn’t work as you expect, let me know and I’ll help you with the adjustments.
