Remove Tags (followed topics) in the Reader

Hello, I am able to add tags / topics, which helps to filter what I see in my reader. However, I am unable to remove them, as there is only an add button. How do I remove followed reader topics?

    WP.com: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

If you click the topitc name of a list, on the right side, you can find the cog icon to access the list’s settings:

In the next screen click the delete tab and confirm.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

    Hello,

The screenshot you show is only applying to the “Lists” tab of my reader. When I instead click on “Tags”, there are no cogs and thus, no settings to display for deletion. This is why I ask how to delete them.

For context, I have never made a list of tags, and so have none to remove. I am instead trying to delete the tags themselves. Is this possible?

Here is another example. In this one you can see the tag “flute” on the left as being highlighted, but with no settings cog showing.

wordpress reader tags tab with flute tag clicked on and in view but no settings gear displaying to use for deleting the tag

  • Ah, I think we must have misunderstood.

Can you tap on the tag you want to stop following, then click the green “Following Tag” option in the upper right?

Not on PC/desktop via web browser view, unfortunately, which is what the screenshots are from. The images I took are all that will display of a given tag; there isn’t anything else to click on, which is strange. I even used a browser with no extensions or special settings enabled in the hopes of avoiding other software that might be affecting the webpage display.

After reading your reply I thought to try my phone. Usually a desktop version has more features than a mobile app, but why not look? The app has been updated / layout and screens rearranged since I last attempted this.

On the Reader section, I hit the settings gear and it brought me to “Manage Topics & Sites” where it shows “followed topics” (the old version of the app didn’t do this). Here it does show little “following” icons next to reader tags, and I can tap them to remove a tag. Problem solved.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Glad you’ve got it! What browser were you using? I was able to see the “Following” tag using Chrome on Mac.

I have been using Firefox, Edge, and Chrome (in Windows 10), with all extensions disabled and the page refreshed in each.
The app on my phone is the Android version; it displays everything nicely so far.
